About Hypnosis
What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is an entirely natural state where the mind gets focused on a single idea and can be guided by external suggestion. Hypnosis & hypnotism has been around for thousands of years where originally a priest class would effects cures or guidance by inducing a trance state in followers and making suggestions to their god's followers. More recently, hypnotherapy practitioners have used their art to encorage the breaking of bad habits or to reinforce good ones. There are as many ideas on the trance state as there are hypnotists, and some will even tell you that there is no such thing as hypnosis or that all hypnosis is self induced, but on the whole we all make use of a trance state that has been deliberately caused.
Who can be hypnotised? Just about everybody, although some may need more relaxation than others. Some will go quickly and easily, some just need a bit longer and some a lot longer, but there are very few who will not relax enough to go into trance at all. Neither are those who will go under easily weak minded or easily led. On the contrary, intelligent people and those who can concentrate or have a good imagination are very often those on whom hypnosis has the greatest effect.
What can hypnosis do for you? There is so much that can be done by an intelligent and practically minded hypnotist and a like minded client. Weight loss and quitting smoking are the most common reasons for visiting a hypnotist, but phobia removal, sports performance & confidence improvement are amongst many other strings to the competant hypnotists bow. Although we cannot work miracles and make diseases disappear, anything that may have a reason in the mind can be made to take a more positive turn and possibly effect a self cure. Sometimes this may involve regression sessions to take the mind back to an earlier event or series of events that may have triggered a current problem.
Then of course there is performance hypnosis, more commonly known as 'Stage Hypnosis' or Street Hypnosis' of the kind so very often put up on You Tube and the like. This is often many people's only contact with hypnosis at all and whilst it is nearly always just good clean fun, some less thinking or caring performers can leave their victims in a poor mental state and do a great deal of harm to the reputation of therapy hypnotists. The performance hypnotist will always go for the more easily hypnotisable victim as getting somebody to 'go under' quickly is far more impressive than someone who needs much longer to get into the hypnotic trance state. Past Life Regression is also more in the entertainment category than thereputic but can be a great talking point for the more adventurous party event.
